Joining TKE
There are many ways to be introduced to the Chapter and we welcome you to get to know us. Most freshmen come into contact with the fraternity through the IFC's (inter fraternity council) "fall rush", which occurs during the first week of school each August. Fall rush is a completely dry event, during which anyone can walk from house to house each night to get to know the 32 different fraternities of Georgia Tech.
Each fraternity operates differently regarding bids (invitations to membership). At TKE, typically after a few days of talking to an individual, if we feel that he would be a good addition to our fraternity, we will offer that person a bid and then it is up to him to decide if he wants to accept it.
Outside of formal rush, you can get to know TKE through the individual members, especially the candidates, or "pledges", through the dorms, class, sports, or other campus activities. TKE also rushes again in the spring.
Some things to keep in mind as you are getting to know TKE:
- We are an incredibly diverse chapter of a diverse fraternity, so there is no particular type of person that we're looking for during rush.
- Try to meet as many brothers as you can. We don't want you to base your opinion of us on a single brother. By meeting more people you will get a better feel for the fraternity as a whole.
- Be yourself. We need to be the type of place that you want to be just as much as you need to be the type of person that we need. There are many fraternities on campus and there is a place for pretty much everyone. We want you to be at the place that you are going to enjoy the most, so not being yourself hurts you as well as us in the end.
- If you want to know something, just ask. Ask about anything. It won't seem pushy or artificial. It's why you're here.
